Job summary

Walgreens seeks a seasoned paralegal to independently handle diverse legal matters, negotiate with outside counsel, and support the law department’s goals. You will prepare documents, coordinate with attorneys and business teams, conduct legal research using LexisNexis/Westlaw, and help mentor junior staff while contributing to efficient operations across the legal function.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently on a variety of legal matters, including negotiation with outside counsel and resolution of legal issues
  • Represents Walgreens externally to customers, vendors, opposing counsel and government agencies and resolves legal issues using negotiation and legal experience
  • Effectively and regularly communicates with legal counsel, staff and business to understand goals and achieve objectives
  • Works in coordination with attorneys on complex legal issues and administers law department activities
  • Researches highly complex legal issues and relevant topics relating to Walgreens business operations
  • Investigates facts, applicable law and searches pertinent sources; develops oral/written presentations to communicate findings
  • Demonstrates independent judgment and critical thinking to identify issues and report findings to stakeholders
  • Analyzes contracts, pleadings, statutes, regulations and other docs to evaluate legal position and makes recommendations
  • Drafts legal documents, communications and reports under minimal supervision
  • Provides guidance by training or mentoring paraprofessionals and staff
  • Uses advanced knowledge of complex legal concepts to meet department goals
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency
  • May manage department budgets

  • Drafts legal documents, communications and reports under minimal to no attorney supervision
  • Provides guidance by training, coaching or mentoring other paraprofessionals and/or other staff
  • Uses advanced knowledge of highly complex legal concepts to achieve departmental and/or business unit goals
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance legal department efficiency
  • May manage department budgets

Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years of paralegal experience in a corporate law department or law firm OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least six (6) years of paralegal experience with a corporate law department or law firm
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations
  • Experience processing information (such as compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data)
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives)
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates
  • Experience using advanced analytical skills to independently review, draft, negotiate and prepare documents
  • Experience using written communication and grammatical skills to draft/compose legal documents, communications and reports
  • Experience utilizing interpersonal and team-building skills to foster collaboration and establish positive relationships
  • Experience using legal research tools, such as LexisNexis or Westlaw
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 5% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Experience working with and managing the outside counsel relationship
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-certified paralegal program.
  • Experience in a retail environment and/or healthcare setting

The Salary below is being provided to promote pay transparency and equal employment opportunities at Walgreens. The actual hourly salary within this range that you will be offered will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience and other relevant factors.

Salary Range: $65000 - $113750 / Salaried
