Job summary

Marmic Fire and Safety Co. is seeking a Lead Kitchen Systems/Fire Extinguisher Technician to install, inspect, maintain, and repair kitchen hood fire suppression systems and extinguishers.

This on-site role supports both commercial and residential kitchens, with a focus on compliance and safety standards. The Lead Technician will mentor a team of technicians at the location, participate in ongoing training, and identify opportunities for system upgrades and revenue growth.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience with pre-engineered fire safety kitchen systems and extinguisher work.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed.
  • Must pass pre-employment background checks and drug screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Understand NFPA codes and local fire regulations for kitchen systems.
  • Install, inspect, service, and maintain kitchen hood suppression systems.
  • Inspect and test fire extinguishers per NFPA 10 and UL 300.
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting and repair of fire suppression systems.
  • Maintain accurate electronic service and inspection documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and AHJs for scheduling.

Position Summary

The Lead Kitchen Systems/Fire Extinguisher Technician at Marmic Fire and Safety is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers. This role ensures that all kitchen fire protection systems are fully operational and compliant with safety standards and regulations. The technician will work on-site to support both commercial and residential kitchens, handling various tasks from system setup to routine maintenance. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, strong customer service skills, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards. As the Lead Technician you will also be responsible for mentoring and supporting the training of the team of technicians at the location.

Core Responsibilities
  • Understand and apply NFPA codes, manufacturer specifications, and local fire codes for restaurant fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Follow company policies and industry regulations to ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
  • Install, Inspect, service, and maintain kitchen hood fire suppression systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards
  • Inspect, test, recharge, and tag portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10 and kitchen extinguishing systems per NFPA 17-17A and UL 300or applicable codes.
  • Inspect and functionally test emergency and exit lighting systems
  • Identify system deficiencies and document required corrective actions
  • Diagnose and perform on-site emergency troubleshooting of fire suppression systems.
  • Address any malfunctions, deficiencies, or non-conformance issues identified during inspections.
  • Complete accurate electronic service and inspection documentation in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, contractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)to schedule service appointments, provide updates, and address any concerns regarding their kitchen fire protection systems.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and offer recommendations for system maintenance, upgrades, and compliance.
  • Support the quoting of installation, repairs and deficiencies.
  • Maintain assigned service vehicle, tools, and inventory in good working condition
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices in kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguisher maintenance.
  • Continuously improve technical skills and knowledge related to fire protection systems and mentor other technicians to meet the highest quality of standards.
  • Support and assist field technicians to ensure job completion and quality standards
  • Prepare kitchen hood system plans when required
  • Actively identify and pursue opportunities to generate revenue through service work, system upgrades, and equipment sales
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Pre - Engineered Systems (Fire Safety - Kitchen Systems/Fire Extinguisher experience).
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a professional attitude.
  • Basic understanding of fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers is a plus but not required for entry-level candidates.
  • Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and basic repair tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must pass pre-employment background checks and drug screenings, with ongoing compliance throughout employment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving equipment over 50lbs, and working in challenging positions such as climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be on callas needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification or coursework in fire suppression systems or fire protection.
  • Previous experience working with kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes, including NFPA 10, NFPA 17-17A, UL 300, and local fire codes.
  • Experience with brands such as ANSUL, Pyro Chem, Range Guard, Kidde, and Piranha.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages.
