Job Description

In this role, you will help design, build, and deliver the next generation of operational claims systems supporting Allstate Dealer Services. This platform is a strategic investment in the future of the business, enabling more efficient operations, faster service delivery, improved customer experiences, and long-term cost optimization.

As a technical leader on the team, you will contribute to the architecture, development, and delivery of modern backend services and applications that support key business capabilities. You will partner closely with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to translate complex operational needs into scalable, reliable, and maintainable technology solutions.

This role includes ownership of applications in production, driving engineering best practices, and helping shape the technical direction of a platform that will modernize how Dealer Services manages claims operations. Your work will directly contribute to reducing operational complexity, accelerating delivery of new capabilities, and improving outcomes for customers and the business.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including iteration planning, standups, and retrospectives, helping drive continuous improvement across the team.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Contribute to the architecture, development, and operation of scalable microservices and distributed systems.
  • Apply engineering best practices including clean code principles, test-driven development, code reviews, and automated testing.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes that support reliable software delivery.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and support applications in production environments.
  • Contribute to the codebase while ensuring adherence to coding standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices.
Essential Skills
  • 4+ years of software development experience using Java and J2EE technologies, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring IoC, Spring Security, Spring AOP, and related Spring frameworks.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including API documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), versioning, service discovery, testing, and microservice architectures.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and modern software development practices.
  • Experience with relational databases, including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and SQL development.
  • Experience with automated testing and Test Driven Development (TDD) using frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium, JBehave, or similar tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, Maven, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, or similar platforms.
  • Experience developing and supporting production services with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog or equivalent.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or XP environments.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience building and operating high-volume, distributed systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Experience with messaging and event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, PCF, Azure, or equivalent cloud environments.
  • Experience with application security and quality tooling such as SonarQube, Fortify, Contrast, or similar products.
  • Exposure to modern front-end technologies such as JavaScript, React, or Angular. While this role is primarily focused on backend engineering, the ability to collaborate across the full stack is a plus.
