Job Description

The Lead IT Engineer, Salesforce is a software engineer who specializes in Casey's marketing technology platform. This role is responsible for engineering, testing, and maintaining the code, data pipelines, and integrations that run on Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud in support of Casey's personalization, loyalty, and retail media objectives.

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer who applies software engineering discipline (sound design, version control, automated testing, and observability) to the Salesforce ecosystem. This role is designed for a hands‑on engineering leader, not a platform administrator focused primarily on configuration. Working hands‑on as an individual contributor, the Lead IT Engineer sets the technical standard for the team, mentors other engineers, and partners closely with Product Managers, Architects, and marketing stakeholders to turn business goals into reliable, governed, high‑quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineer, develop, and maintain highly complex solutions on Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud, writing well‑structured, tested, maintainable code and building data models, data ingestion and identity resolution, segmentation, and multi‑channel campaign orchestration that meet guest and business requirements.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines and integrations between the marketing platform and connected enterprise systems (loyalty, commerce, content, analytics, and the enterprise data platform), using APIs, events, and secure file automation to keep first‑party guest data accurate and real‑time.
  • Develop personalized, data‑driven content and automated guest journeys, applying platform scripting and query languages to deliver differentiated messaging by segment at scale.
  • Monitor, identify, assess, and correct highly complex platform and data problems to maintain fully functioning, performant marketing applications, and improve observability so issues are detected before they reach guests.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated tests and quality reviews to ensure the accuracy, performance, and security of the solutions being built.
  • Ensure solutions handle guest data responsibly by applying privacy, consent, and data‑governance requirements, and partner with GRC, Legal, and Data governance stakeholders to clear the required sign‑offs before release.
  • Discuss and recommend improvements to increase the quality, scalability, and reliability of the marketing technology platform and its supporting infrastructure to better meet guests' and the business's needs.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to IT Engineer team members, including code review, pairing, and instruction, and help establish engineering standards and best practices across the platform.
  • Proactively and continuously learn to grow a considerable knowledge base, correctly assess the applicability of new platform capabilities and industry practices to Casey's environment, and guide the team in adopting them.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation:

Starting pay range: $117,000-160,900. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the typical hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.

Requirements
  • This positionrequires authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment‑based immigration sponsorship now or in the future. Casey’s will not provide sponsorship or employer support for applications or petitions for F‑1 OPT, F‑1 CPT, H‑1B, L‑1, TN, O‑1, E‑3, H‑1B1, J‑1, or any other employment‑based visa.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent years of related work experience.
  • At least seven (7) years of experience building and maintaining production software and data systems in a business environment, including significant hands‑on experience applying those engineering skills on Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud (or a comparable enterprise marketing platform and customer data platform).
  • A software engineering foundation (data structures, version control, automated testing, CI/CD, and writing maintainable code) is required.
  • Experience with data integration patterns, APIs, SQL, and marketing automation at enterprise scale is expected.
  • Relevant Salesforce certifications (for example, Marketing Cloud Developer, Marketing Cloud Administrator, or Data Cloud Accredited Professional) are preferred.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL and enterprise API integration patterns is a plus.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including sound design, version control, automated testing, and writing maintainable, production‑quality code, applied with deep hands‑on expertise in marketing platform development, data modeling, segmentation, and systems integration.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, consent, and governance practices for handling guest data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate between business needs and technical solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to design scalable data models and diagnose complex, cross‑system data issues.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships and to provide technical mentorship to other engineers.
  • Takes initiative and has the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, or as part of a team.
  • Prioritizes and organizes assignments to make efficient use of time with significant attention to detail.
  • Capable of identifying problems, analyzing and evaluating information to determine solutions for problem solving.

This role does not allow for 100% remote work. Qualified candidates must live within a daily commutable distance of Casey's Store Support Center in Ankeny, IA and be willing to work onsite 5 days per week.
