U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, VA is seeking an INTERDISCIPLINARY SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER or SUPERVISORY HEALTH PHYSICIST to lead the Radiological Emergency Planning Division at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

The role involves guiding a technical team, developing procedures for radiological events, coordinating with federal, state and local partners, and maintaining response assets to ensure rapid and effective protective actions shipboard and shore installations.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a technical or professional team, including assignment and coordination of work, resolving conflicts and project management.
  • Experience applying radiological controls, nuclear engineering, or health physics knowledge as applied to naval programs.
  • Experience planning, executing, and/or evaluating radiological drills and/or exercises.
  • Experience managing complex technical programs while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Division Head's staff and coordinate work to meet objectives with timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Assign and coordinate tasks to ensure achievement of overall objectives and quality standards.
  • Schedule leave, evaluate performance, and advise on discipline, promotions, and training as needed.
  • Coordinate response to naval nuclear reactor incidents or radiological emergencies with procedures for notifying pertinent personnel and assessing radiological conditions.
  • Collaborate with Federal, State, and Local agencies to ensure shipyard response plans provide integrated emergency coverage.
  • Maintain and upgrade radiological emergency support facilities, such as mobile response vans and radiological assessment equipment.
