Job summary

Calumet is seeking a Level 1 Instrumentation Technician (Mastery Level) to install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex instrumentation across refinery operations. You will serve as a technical authority, mentoring junior technicians and contractors and leading instrumentation work during turnarounds and critical repairs.

Ideal candidates bring advanced knowledge of process instrumentation, DCS/PLC systems, and safety compliance (LOTO, PSM, Class I Div 1/2).

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED or equivalent
Completion of Instrumentation/Controls apprenticeship or technical program
Significant experience in industrial or refinery instrumentation

Responsibilities

Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex instrumentation and control systems
Perform precision calibration and configuration of field instruments
Lead instrumentation work during turnarounds and critical repairs
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and apprentices
Interpret loop diagrams, P&IDs, and instrument datasheets
Ensure compliance with safety and PSM requirements including LOTO and hazardous area classifications
Support advanced control strategies and optimization efforts
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on instrumentation systems
Participate in RCFA and incident investigations
Oversee and verify quality of contractor instrumentation work
