Job summary

Audio Video Electronics seeks a Lead Installer to head on-site installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and final delivery of AV systems, including audio, video, lighting, LED walls, and DSP. You will direct installation crews, coordinate with trades, manage schedule and on-site quality, and ensure installations meet AVE's high standards with minimal downtime.

You will train clients, produce as-built documentation, and maintain safety and accuracy on every project, while representing AVE

Qualifications

  • Two-year electronics degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related field experience in AVL installation, with demonstrated experience leading crews and managing projects on site.
  • Minnesota Power Limited Technician License (or ability to obtain promptly).
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage job-site logistics, and deliver projects successfully under real-world conditions.
  • Strong working knowledge of professional audio, video, lighting, and networked systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise installation crews on site, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring work quality and safety.
  • Manage daily project execution: schedule, manpower, materials, and coordination with other trades and the client’s representatives.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for the client, Project Manager, and Design Engineer.
  • Resolve job-site conflicts between AVE personnel, clients, and other contractors in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Ensure installations meet deadlines, drawings, and specifications; elevate issues promptly when they cannot be resolved in the field.
  • Oversee final system hookup, testing, documentation of readings, and customer sign-off.
  • Train clients on system operation and ensure user manuals and as-built documentation are complete and delivered.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets, installation tickets, inventory usage, and job-site records.
  • Enforce full compliance with AVE and customer safety programs and maintain a professional, organized job site.

On‑Site Leadership & Project Management

Technical Responsibilities
  • Install, terminate, test, and commission audio, video, lighting, and networked systems.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and project drawings.
  • Operate and interpret readings from multimeters, impedance meters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and related test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic components and systems in the field.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and firmware updates as required.
  • Respond to service‑related issues promptly (including scheduled on‑call rotation).
  • Update customer files and work with the Design Engineer and Project Manager to maintain accurate as‑built drawings.
Audio
  • Knowledge of high‑end analog and digital mixing consoles (Allen & Heath, Digico, Yamaha, etc.) and ability to train users.
  • Familiarity with effects processors (compressors, delays, limiters, reverb, feedback eliminators, gates).
  • Understanding of microphone types and proper placement.
  • Proficient DSP programming and related controllers (Q‑Sys, Symetrix, BSS, Rane, etc.); relevant certifications preferred.
  • RF analysis and wireless system deployment/frequency management.
  • Loudspeaker system tuning using measurement software (EQ, delay, levels).
Video
  • Setup and troubleshooting of switchers, scalers, scan converters, distribution amplifiers, video‑over‑IP/RF, camera systems, and controllers.
  • Digital signage setup and configuration.
  • Knowledge of optics, lenses, and camera systems in various applications.
Lighting
  • Lighting console navigation and DMX knowledge (universes, cabling, termination, addressing, distribution).
  • Theatrical light focusing and understanding of fixture/lamp types.
  • ETC certification preferred.
Networking / IT
  • Solid understanding of IP networking, network switches, remote access, and VPN connectivity for system control and support.
Leadership & Professional Development
  • Train and mentor junior installers and technicians on technical skills, safety, and professional standards.
  • Demonstrate strong client‑facing communication and the ability to train users with limited AV experience.
  • Seek out leadership development and stay current with new technologies offered by AVE.
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications.
Accountability

Reports primarily to the Project Manager. Secondary accountability to the broader management team, installation crew members, and clients.
