Job description

Overview

The Lead Installer is a key member of a solar installation construction crew, responsible for completing residential solar installation projects. The role involves guiding the crew, coordinating daily activities, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Responsibilities
  • Review inventory at the loading dock to ensure the crew truck is adequately stocked.
  • Layout and assemble solar modules, mechanical and structural mounts, electrical equipment, and tools for installation.
  • Apply weather sealing to roofing structures or support mechanisms.
  • Assemble racking, solar modules, panels, or support structures as specified in the project plan.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly job site.
  • Perform project clean‑up, including client site and installation vehicle.
  • Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methodology, and safety.
  • Lead the crew through safe, effective, and efficient installations.
  • Provide leadership, technical expertise, and support to fellow crew members.
  • Assist with solar battery installations when assigned.
  • Serve as acting Foreperson in the foreperson’s absence.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience considered.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license; must be at least 21 years old.
  • Adherence to company safety policies and ability to identify and report hazards.
  • Strong communication skills for building rapport with customers and coworkers.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and key metrics.
  • Willingness to participate in the Power+ program, enabling cross‑training across departments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fast‑paced, team‑based environment.
  • Strong logical decision‑making and troubleshooting skills.
  • Sound judgment and willingness to take ownership of issues and escalating them when appropriate.
Physical Demands
  • Transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Work on rooftops with varying angles, requiring bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balancing.
  • Use confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces, involving kneeling and crouching.
  • Operate in external weather conditions including heat, cold, wet environments, and humidity.
  • Perform fine motor tasks involving manipulation, grasping, and pinching.
  • Work within the safe range of equipment such as ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain balance on roofs and other high areas.
  • Work in sun or low‑light conditions.
  • Walk on rafters, roof tiles, and shingles without damage.
  • Distinguish colors such as red, black, yellow, white, and green.
  • Hear verbal commands and warnings.
  • Use chemicals with appropriate protection.
  • Travel up to 5% of time.
Compensation

Starting hourly rate: $27.60 – $36.80.
