Role Overview

The Lead Installation Technician is responsible for the complete, satisfactory installation of residential HVAC equipment and accessories and for overseeing the work of Assistant Installation Technicians to ensure correct performance, clear customer communication, problem resolution, and total customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Install heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment and accessories according to company standards, requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Design, fabricate, and install various ducts and duct fittings as necessary.
  • Perform limited diagnostics as required.
  • Maintain a clean work area, safeguard client floors by laying drop cloths during installations, and wear floor savers while working in client homes.
  • Inspect work area for cleanliness after job completion.
  • Complete installation forms reflecting tasks performed for reporting accuracy and future comparison.
  • Effectively communicate with customers regarding questions, concerns, and problems.
  • Perform start‑ups on heating, cooling systems, and other components.
  • Deliver and remove equipment needed to complete installation work.
  • Confirm company vehicle is in safe working order, properly stocked, and that defective warranty parts are returned to the branch and vehicle stock is replenished as needed.
  • Train apprentices to properly fill out and organize job folders, set up air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, or air handlers, pull vacuums on refrigerant systems to test for tightness, correctly install all versions of thermostats and wiring, program all programmable thermostats, install IAQ products, install duct work transitions in sheet metal and ductboard, install gas lines, flue pipes, and run high and low voltage wiring applications, and maintain safety and quality as a top priority by wearing only company approved One Hour apparel, following safety policies and procedures, abiding by all One Hour standards of performance and code of ethics, and maintaining a courteous demeanor with all customers and associates.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable HVAC installation work history.
  • Knowledge of fundamental operational functionality of residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.
  • Knowledge of layout and installation requirements of residential duct work and fittings.
  • Skilled in reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting problems with electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on residential HVAC equipment.
  • Solid communication and customer service skills; appropriate trade tools required.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; must pass a background check and drug screen.
Education/Certification

Environmental Conditions

Climbing, heavy lifting, loud noise, crawling, working in confined spaces, pushing/pulling, carrying equipment, bending, turning, kneeling.

Physical Requirements

Capability of lifting 50 pounds; ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs; ability to work in confined spaces and to maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces to access HVAC units.
