Qualifications

• BS/BA in related discipline; 8+ years experience or MS/MA with 5+ years.
• Certification may be required in some areas.
• Experience with layout/design tools and analytics is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads the design and optimization of distribution center layouts for space, safety and scalability.

Job Summary

Responsible for spearheading the design, optimization, and strategic planning of enterprise-level distribution center operations. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, scalability, and safety through data-driven engineering solutions and leads cross-functional initiatives, applying advanced analytics, layout optimization, and process improvement methodologies to align infrastructure and supply chain capabilities with long-term business objectives.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities And Key Accountabilities

• Leads the design and optimization of distribution center layouts to improve space utilization, safety and scalability.
• Collaborates cross-functionally with Real Estate, IT, Supply Chain and Construction and Material Handling vendors to align infrastructure with strategic goals.
• Develops and evaluates data driven solutions for slotting, capacity planning, and material flow using simulation and optimization tools.
• Builds and presents business cases with cost-benefit analysis, risk assessments, and performance metrics to support decision making.
• Manages project lifecycles from the requirements gathering through implementation, ensuring timely and effective execution.
• Conducts root cause analysis to identify operational inefficiencies and drives corrective actions that promote continuous improvement.
• Researches and applies industry best practices and emerging technologies to enhance distribution center performance.
• Utilizes advanced analytics and visualization tools to communicate insights and support strategic planning.
• Partners with associates across departments to foster a culture of teamwork, transparency, and shared accountability.

Nature and Scope

• Displays the highest level of critical thinking and analysis in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-departmental problems. Makes prompt, sound decisions when faced with complex and often contradictory alternatives that result in successful outcomes.
• Operates with considerable latitude. Situations may have little or no precedent requiring original or new concepts or approaches without guidance from others. Reaches decisions under conditions of uncertainty.
• Develops or engages/directs others in developing innovative solutions to important, highly complex strategic and operating problems; cross-departmental considerations are often present.

Work Environment

• Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
• Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
• Typically requires overnight travel 20-50% of the time.

Education And Experience

• Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally, 8+ years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 5+ years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Supply Chain or related field.
• Proficiency in layout and design tools: AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar CAD software.
• Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle)
• Advanced Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
• Programming or scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, SQL) for data analysis and automation is a plus.
• This is a Hybrid role: On-site when not on traveling.
