Job summary

Astera Neuro, part of the Astera Institute, is building a human neuroscience initiative to collect, process, and analyze intracranial data at scale. We seek human neuroscientists to lead large-scale studies of neural representations underlying language, math, perception, and working memory in neurosurgical patients, collaborating with sites worldwide.

You will design cognitive tasks for wide deployment, translate primate paradigms into human studies, and coordinate with clinical partners while

Qualifications

PhD or MD/PhD with 8–12+ years of experience required.
Experience with human intracranial electrophysiology in research settings.
First-author publications demonstrating high-quality science with intracranial data.
Ability to design cognitive paradigms for clinical research populations.
Strong quantitative skills; fluent in Python and/or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

Design and deploy intracranial cognitive paradigms for language, syntax, memory, and mathematics.
Translate primate paradigms to human studies and coordinate with experimental/computational teams.
Process and analyze intracranial recordings (sEEG, ECoG, single-unit, LFP) at scale.
Develop advanced computational methods for large-scale datasets with the AI team.
Coordinate with clinical partners worldwide and manage study setup and data collection.
Oversee IRB/regulatory documentation and cross-site protocol harmonization.
