Job summary

Astera Neuro is building a human neuroscience initiative to collect and analyze intracranial data at scale. We seek a Human Neuroscientist to lead studies on language, mathematics, and working memory in neurosurgical patients, collaborating with partner sites globally.

You will design cognitive tasks for human studies, translate primate work, analyze intracranial recordings, and drive end-to-end data processing from concept to open-science data releases.

Qualifications

• PhD or MD/PhD with 8-12+ years of experience in engineering, computational neuroscience, or cognitive neuroscience.
• Hands-on experience with human intracranial electrophysiology (single neuron, sEEG, ECoG, Utah array).
• First-author publications demonstrating high-quality science with human intracranial data.
• Ability to design cognitive paradigms for clinical populations and translate paradigms across species.
• Strong Python/MATLAB skills and advanced population-level analysis knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deploy intracranial cognitive paradigms for language, math, perception, and memory.
• Translate primate paradigms to human studies and coordinate with clinical partners.
• Analyze single-neuron, multi-unit, and LFP data from the human brain at scale.
• Develop computational methods for large-scale datasets in collaboration with the AI team.
• Manage multi-site clinical collaborations, IRB submissions, and data-sharing agreements.
