Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI, is seeking a Process Engineer to lead the specification, acquisition, qualification, and start-up of manufacturing equipment for heat treatment and metallurgical processes in our Powertrain and Manufacturing teams.

You will own end-to-end equipment delivery, coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery, and manage budgets while presenting status to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Materials, Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Min of 5 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Experience in supplier management, technical purchasing, and preparation of purchasing specifications (RFQ/ESWP).
  • Experience in schedule management, budgeting, and financial control of capital (CAPEX) projects.
  • Knowledge of complex technical drawing interpretation and its application.
  • Knowledge of Heat Treatment processes (carburizing, hardenability, etc.) will be considered a plus, but is not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of gear machining and metrology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead/specify and acquire equipment, alloys, carts, automation for metallurgical processing.
  • Qualify machines and processes using FORD tools and statistical methods for powertrain plants.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and development of new materials and methods.
  • Interpret complex technical drawings and prints.
  • Manage end-to-end equipment acquisition: RFQ/SOW, supplier evaluation, and purchase requisitions.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to adhere to sourcing strategies and quality requirements.
  • Own equipment delivery lifecycle from design to commissioning and start-up at production plants.
  • Manage supplier contracts, timelines, and safety requirements.
  • Take ownership of project budgets, cost estimates, and expense documentation.
  • Develop timing plans, identify deviations, and lead recovery actions.
  • Ensure supplier documentation, manuals, and maintenance plans are complete.
  • Produce process documentation and control plans; apply PFMEA and SPC tools.
  • Develop standardized engineering solutions for equipment with focus on safety and productivity.
  • Document engineering studies and lessons learned for standards.
  • Support plant layout, spare parts, and visual factory initiatives to cut costs.
  • Interact with engineering teams, OEMs, plants, and purchasing.
  • Lead resolution of technical issues and escalate when needed.
  • Coordinate labor planning for installation periods.
  • Prepare status reports and executive presentations.
  • Lead project follow-ups and report risks and progress.
