Job summary

St. David's South Austin Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Lead Heart Certified Surgical Technologist to guide the OR team and ensure the safest, most advanced cardiac procedures.

You will scrub in, mentor staff, manage counts and infection prevention, and collaborate with surgeons to deliver exceptional patient care. A CST and BLS are required, with cardiovascular specialty experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of recent work experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with demonstrated competency in cardiovascular surgical specialty-required
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy

Responsibilities

  • Leading surgical preparation by organizing suites, equipment, and instruments to ensure readiness for every procedure
  • Scrubbing in and supporting surgeons through complex cardiac surgeries, anticipating needs and maintaining a safe, sterile environment
  • Guiding and mentoring surgical technologists, serving as a role model while training new team members and reinforcing best practices
  • Overseeing quality and safety by managing counts, handling specimens, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards
  • Driving teamwork and efficiency through effective communication, rapid problem-solving, and support for on-call and emergency cases
