Job summary

Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) is seeking a Grounds Chief to lead a maintenance crew across Dundalk locations. You will oversee scheduling, safety, and quality of grounds projects, including athletic fields and concrete work, while coordinating with transportation and facilities teams.

The role requires a high school diploma and 4 years of grounds maintenance/construction experience, plus a valid Maryland class A CDL and DOT medical certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; four years of grounds maintenance/construction experience including concrete work.
• Maryland class A commercial driver’s license with endorsements and/or restrictions as required; DOT medical certification (card) required.

Responsibilities

• Leads, coordinates, and oversees the work of a grounds crew; schedules staff and assigns tasks; directs and trains crew members; sets priorities.
• Ensures projects are completed timely and per procedures; interprets drawings and layouts and aids in laying out athletic areas.
• Orders materials; maintains payroll and equipment records; prepares reports.
• Oversees maintenance, construction, and repair of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and concrete items.
• Determines equipment needs and ensures safety and quality standards; inspects work and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
• Operates trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment; participates in grounds and athletic field maintenance.
• Identifies turf and ornamental issues; applies pesticides and adheres to environmental protection requirements.
• Directs snow removal; operates snowplow; may assist Baltimore County Highways in snow/ice removal.
• Performs other duties of similar scope and complexity.
