Overall Job Function
The Lead Grain Operations Specialist is responsible for overseeing daily grain handling operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality service to cooperative patrons. This role combines hands-on operational work with leadership responsibilities, including coordinating team members, maintaining equipment, and supporting grain quality and inventory management.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee daily receiving, drying, conditioning, and loading of grain.
- Operate and monitor grain handling equipment including conveyors, legs, dryers, and aeration systems.
- Ensure grain quality standards are maintained through proper testing, grading, and storage practices.
- Assist with blending, transferring, and inventory management of grain.
- Load and unload trucks accurately and efficiently.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to grain handling staff.
- Train new employees on safety procedures, equipment operation, and cooperative standards
- Coordinate workflow to maximize efficiency during peak seasons (harvest, shipping)
- Serve as the point person in the absence of the Location Manager
- Promote and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine safety checks and ensure proper use of PPE.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
- Assist in safety training and meetings.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Identify and report needed repairs; assist with troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility, including grain bins, grounds, and work areas.
- Provide excellent service to patrons delivering or purchasing grain.
- Assist with resolving customer concerns in a professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Possesses mechanical skills needed to perform minor maintenance tasks on equipment and buildings around the facility.
- Ability to operate/understand mobile equipment, power tools and hand tools.
- Ability to manage stressful situations.

Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, seasonal environment, especially during harvest.
- Mechanical curiosity and a willingness to learn new equipment and technology.
- Experience in agriculture, grain operations, or industrial environments.
- Basic mechanical, electrical, or welding skills.
