Job summary

Material Bank is expanding its MB3 platform with a Lead Front End Engineer role. You will design, build, and deliver features, collaborating with designers and engineers to shape the front-end, SEO tooling, and analytics.

You’ll own performance, accessibility, and testing frameworks while driving the migration to a Next.js-based frontend. The position emphasizes collaboration with Product, Design and QA, and requires a strong React background, HTML/CSS expertise, and experience with modern

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science.
  • 5+ years of experience with React and front-end development.
  • Proficiency in HTML, React and CSS with knowledge of CSS preprocessors like SASS or LESS.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and collaborating with designers.
  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the front-end architecture for a brand-new platform aligned with technical vision and business goals.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design and QA to translate wireframes into interactive user interfaces.
  • Optimize UI components for performance, scalability and responsiveness with accessibility in mind.
  • Create and maintain documentation for UI components, coding standards and best practices.
  • Help rewrite/refactor frontend from CommerceTools to a Next.js app and build tests using Playwright.
  • Help build strategy, select tools, and implement SEO, analytics and monitoring.

About the role:

Material Bank is expanding its reach with the launch of our new MB3 platform – our modern B2B commerce platform built to replace our legacy system and serve the needs of architects, designers and brands at scale.

We're seeking a Lead Front End Engineer to design, build, and deliver technical and product roadmap features. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team building innovative products with state-of-the-art technology, collaborating closely with designers and software engineers. You'll help shape key technology and tooling decisions, and work closely with the backend engineering team to define integration standards. You'll also own critical aspects of the site's engineering, including SEO tooling, site analytics, monitoring, performance optimization, and the selection of testing frameworks.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop and maintain the front-end architecture for a brand-new platform, ensuring it aligns with the overall technical vision and business goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design and QA teams to translate wireframes and design mockups into interactive and visually appealing user interfaces and build “the right things the right way”
  • Optimize UI components and application code for performance, scalability, and responsiveness, ensuring a smooth user experience even during high traffic periods. Be very aware of Accessibility, UX, and responsive design.
  • Create and maintain documentation for UI components, coding standards, and best practices to facilitate collaboration among team members.
  • Help the team to rewrite, refactor, and decouple frontend from a CommerceTools application to a NextJS app & build tests using playwright
  • Help build the strategy, select the right tools, and implement SEO, site analytics, A/B testing, monitoring, etc.
What you’ll bring:
  • Master’s degree in computer science
  • 5+ Strong expertise in React and related libraries, with the ability to design and develop complex user interfaces using React components.
  • Proficiency in HTML, REACT and CSS, including knowledge of CSS preprocessors like SASS or LESS.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and the ability to collaborate effectively with designers to create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and solutions to ensure consistent performance across different web browsers.
  • Create intuitive and responsive User Interfaces (UI) that provide an exceptional user experience, leveraging your expertise in front-end technologies.
  • Able to maintain high-performance service requirement.
Preferred:
  • Prior experience building e-commerce customer portals
  • High proficiency at problem-solving with focus on speed of delivery, being a team player, and being into details
  • Knowledge of CommerceTools is a plus
