Job summary

The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is seeking a Forest Ecologist to provide field, technical and scientific leadership for the Tribe’s Vegetation Program. The role includes development and implementation of the Swinomish Forest Management Plan, Integrated Vegetation Management Plan, restoration plans, and applied ecological research to support sustainable forest stewardship.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest ecology, natural resource management, or related field with relevant supervisory experience.
• Experience with Pacific Northwest flora, forest ecology, and regulatory frameworks.
• Knowledge of vegetation inventories, mapping, and restoration techniques.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise forest management, invasive species control, restoration, and research programs.
• Oversee field crews and contractors in vegetation management activities.
• Develop and implement forest management plans and monitoring projects.
• Design ecological studies to assess forest conditions and restoration outcomes.
• Prepare technical reports and support environmental compliance and permitting.
• Co-manage grants and contracts; monitor budgets and deliverables.
