Job summary

Astra CoreX, Inc. (ACX) is seeking a Lead Flight Software Engineer to architect, develop, and own the onboard software stack for next-generation aerospace vehicles.

You will collaborate with GN&C, avionics, and autonomy teams to design real-time flight software for mission sequencing, fault management, telemetry, and closed-loop control. Responsibilities include leading software subsystems, integrating guidance algorithms, and hardening software with FDIR, safety analyses, and redundancy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5–10 years of embedded or flight software experience in aerospace/defense/autonomous systems.
• Strong experience with C and/or C++ for embedded real-time systems.
• Hands-on experience with RTOS, interrupts, and hardware interfaces (UART, CAN, Ethernet).
• Experience with software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing for flight software validation.
• U.S. citizen with eligibility for government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of flight software subsystems (mode management, FDIR, telemetry, health monitoring).
• Integrate GN&C algorithms into real-time, resource-constrained environments using RTOS-based frameworks.
• Define interfaces to sensors/actuators and low-level drivers.
• Develop SITL/HITL and data playback infrastructures for validation.
• Own software reliability, safety analyses, fault containment, watchdogs, and redundancy management.
• Collaborate on software requirements, architecture, ICDs, and verification plans for flight-critical functions.
• Lead code reviews, integration, and debugging on embedded targets; mentor junior engineers.
