Job summary

United Airlines, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, seeks a Principal Engineer to oversee aircraft overall performance and RNAV/RNP engine-out procedures for our United Airways fleet.

This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, extensive RNAV/RNP design experience, and strong collaboration with pilots and tech teams. You will mentor engineers, develop SIDs, and ensure compliance with FAA/ICAO standards, while supporting enterprise conferences and data management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Four years of experience in airline flight operations engineering or related field.
  • RNAV/RNP engine-out method development experience.
  • OEM-level education in aircraft performance engineering.
  • Knowledge of FAA, ICAO, and international RNAV/RNP design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Own all aspects of aircraft overall performance, including takeoff, landing, en-route, drift-down, terrain clearance, depressurization, MEL outcomes, and ETOPS.
  • Develop and maintain engine-out RNAV/RNP departure methods for all United Airways fleet aircraft, integrating them with the airport/obstacle database.
  • Collaborate with Tech Pilots to achieve performance objectives and deliver training to the existing team.
  • Build and maintain RNAV/RNP engine-out Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs) and lead related airport and obstacle data management.
  • Coordinate SID improvement requirements with the Technical Pilot organization and attend enterprise conferences.
  • Mentor other engineers in RNAV/RNP engine-out development and best practices.
