Job summary

Chick-fil-A Supply seeks a Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician to service delivery equipment, including heavy‑duty tractors and refrigerated trailers. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize uptime and safety.

You will mentor Fleet Technicians, coordinate with Transportation Ops and the DC to ensure reliable equipment, and report to the Fleet Manager - Fleet Maintenance.

Qualifications

• EPA 608 & EPA 609 Certification required.
• Diagnostics and repair of brake systems (air and hydraulic).
• Diagnostics and repair of diesel engines and refrigeration unit systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance per specs and safety requirements.
• Plan and dispatch maintenance activities with external vendors.
• Maintain parts inventory and monthly inventory checks.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and perform repairs with supervision as needed.
• Repair tractors, trailers, bobtails and related delivery equipment.

Overview

Fleet Maintenance Technicians are responsible for maintaining and repairing transportation delivery equipment used for the delivery and unloading of merchandise at Chick-fil-A restaurants.

The Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for servicing a broad array of equipment, including heavy duty tractors, refrigeration units, insulated trailers and hydraulic liftgates in a safe, orderly, and timely fashion to maximize equipment availability for delivery. They are also responsible for completing maintenance and repairs to transportation equipment air conditioning and refrigeration units.

The Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician provides Fleet Maintenance Technicians and other personnel into dynamic problem-solving team members focused on caring for their teammates in Transportation, the Distribution Center and ultimately the Operators and Restaurants. The Lead Technician reports directly to the Fleet Manager - Fleet Maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative, and corrective maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications, fleet management policies, work order instructions, and safety, quality, and compliance requirements
• Develops strategies and plans to align available resources and external service providers with the needs of Transportation Operations to maximize the availability of safe and reliable equipment
• Plans and dispatches daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities, including the coordination of services from external vendors
• Maintains parts inventory and performs Monthly Inventory to accurately account for all parts spend
• Plans equipment moves for maintenance to maximize uptime availability for the transportation team
• Proactively communicates with Transportation Operations / DC Operations all maintenance issues which can disrupt delivery service to restaurants
• Supports off-shift critical work and emergency repairs
• Completes thorough documentation and closes out work orders for repairs and maintenance activities in the Fleet Maintenance Management System
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems, utilizing technology/software where applicable
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical and electrical inspection and repairs with minimum supervision\ li>Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment
• Identifies root cause for defects and performs repairs accordingly
• Repair delivery equipment, tractors, trailers, bobtails and passenger vehicles or any piece of equipment used for the delivery and unloading of restaurant merchandise
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, drill press and jacks and hoists
• Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists
• Immediately communicate problems with Supervisor or Manager
• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
• Adhere to Federal Motor Carrier Guidelines
• May be required to operate a company vehicle to repair equipment as part of a roadside service call
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Work in a safe manner according to company policies and federal, state, and local regulations
• Train other employees and act as a mentor
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

• EPA 608 & EPA 609 Certification
• Demonstrated proficiency in the diagnostics and repair of brake systems both air and hydraulic
• Demonstrated proficiency in the diagnostics and repair of diesel engines
• Demonstrated proficiency in the diagnostics and repair of refrigeration unit systems and subsystems
• Demonstrated proficiency in the diagnostics and repair of hydraulic liftgates
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to oversee and inspect the work of colleagues – including the ability to communicate required corrections
• Valid driver’s license to operate applicable company vehicles
• Must be able to walk extensively
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time usually for 8-10 hours
• Must be able to lift 30-60 lbs. repetitively and heavier items weighing up to 100 lbs. occasionally and frequently push or pull three hundred (300) pounds.
• Must be capable of working Autonomously
• Must be capable of working in a mobile fashion to support transportation operations
• Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and shifts
• Must be willing to acquire / provide own tools
• Must be willing to be on call for Fleet related Breakdowns
• Proficient communicating in English (reading, writing, and speaking) to safely follow verbal instructions, complete documentation and paperwork, and accurately read and interpret company communications.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

• ASE Certifications or willingness to acquire
• Willingness to acquire CDL
• Prior experience using a Fleet Maintenance Management System
• Prior experience with Microsoft Office programsPrior experience supervising and coaching others with regards to work quality and safety
• Material handling equipment experience is a plus since a forklift is used on occasion
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with welding
