Job summary

Upside is seeking a Lead Financial Data Analyst to translate large datasets into strategic financial insights. You will scale financial data infrastructure, replace legacy reporting with automated pipelines, and deliver high-impact analytics to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

You will own financial datasets, build SQL/dbt models, and automate revenue workflows (CAC, LTV, Payback, IRR) while forecasting with Python and AI.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of FP&A or Strategic Finance at a high-growth SaaS/Tech company.
• Advanced SQL mastery (window functions, CTEs); Snowflake, AWS, and HEX experience.
• dbt for data transformation or basic Airflow workflows.
• High proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy) and automating financial workflows.
• BI/reporting: Looker, HEX, Pigment; knowledge of LTV, CAC, Payback, Churn.

Responsibilities

• Scale Data Architecture: partner with Data Engineering to design, optimize, and maintain financial data warehouses (Snowflake).
• Owner of Financial Datasets: write complex SQL queries and dbt models to transform data into metrics.
• Maintain FP&A Planning Tool: manage forecast/actuals in Pigment and drive spend optimization with AI/analysis.
• Automate Revenue Workflows: build pipelines tracking CAC, LTV, Payback periods, IRR.
• Statistical Forecasting: use Python and AI to improve cohort performance and NRR.
• Pricing & Expansion: model financial impact of pricing, monetization, or international growth.
• Dashboarding: create Looker/HEX dashboards for executive real-time visibility.
• Ad-hoc Analytics: support M&A modeling and strategic opportunities.

The Role:

As a Lead Financial Data Analyst, you will own the translation of large operational datasets into strategic financial frameworks. Sitting at the intersection of FP&A and Data Engineering, you will scale our financial data infrastructure, replace legacy reporting with automated pipelines, and deliver high-impact analytics directly to senior leadership and cross-functional business partners.

What You’ll Do:

• Scale Data Architecture: Partner directly with Data Engineering to design, optimize, and maintain financial data warehouses (using Snowflake).

• Owner of Financial Datasets: Define, write, and maintain complex SQL queries and dbt models to transform raw data into clean, audit-ready financial metrics.

• Maintain FP&A Planning Tool: Manage spend forecast and actuals data for department budget owners in planning tool (Pigment) as well as drive optimization of spend through AI exploration and trend analysis.

• Automate Revenue Workflows: Architect automated pipelines to track key user metrics such as CAC, LTV, Payback periods, and IRR.

• Statistical Forecasting: Leverage Python and AI to improve user cohort performance forecasting as well as merchant net revenue retention.

• New Vertical Pricing Support: Partner with Product and Go-to-market teams to model the financial impact of new pricing models, monetization strategies, or international expansions.

• Institutional Dashboarding: Design and build self-service dashboards (using Looker, HEX) that allow executive leadership to track real-time performance of the business.

• Ad-Hoc Strategic Analytics: Act as analytical swat team for high-stakes business cases, evaluating corporate development opportunities or M&A modeling.

What You’ll Need:

• The Technical Core: 7+ years of experience in FP&A or Strategic Finance at a high-growth SaaS/Tech company

• Databases & Querying: Advanced SQL mastery (window functions, CTEs, query optimization). Experience with Snowflake, AWS, and HEX.

• Data Pipelines: Experience using dbt for data transformation, or basic workflow orchestration with Airflow.

• Programming: High proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy) and automating financial workflows.

• Business Intelligence: Expert-level creation of dynamic reporting layers in Looker, HEX, and/Pigment.

• Traditional Finance: Advanced knowledge of tech unit economics (LTV, CAC, Payback Period, Churn) and corporate finance fundamentals.

The fine print:

Location: This hybrid role is based in our Austin, Chicago, DC, or NYC office. In‑office attendance is required on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and may increase based on project‑based needs and changes to Upside’s in‑office policy over time.

Compensation: The U.S. base salary range for this full‑time position varies by work location:

• Tier 1: NYC $160,000 – $180,000

• Tier 2: Austin, Chicago, Washington, DC $145,000 – $165,000

In addition to base salary, this position is also eligible for equity and benefits.

The final starting pay will be determined based on job‑related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
