Job summary

Save the Children US is seeking a Lead Associate, Financial Accounting to manage monthly close, GL reconciliations, fixed assets, gifts in kind, and payroll support in a hybrid setup across locations including CT. Strong GAAP knowledge and nonprofit accounting experience are essential.

The role emphasizes collaboration, process documentation, and participation in transformative projects. Candidates should have 3+ years in accounting and excel proficiency in a nonprofit context.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit.
• Strong knowledge of intercompany accounting.
• Strong reconciliations and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas) skills for reconciliations and data analysis.
• Demonstrated experience with US Government funding.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Demonstrated knowledge of general ledger and financial systems.
• Proven attention to detail and ability to facilitate multiple projects across divisions.
• Demonstrated success delivering prompt and accurate information, with multiple deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience working in financial management systems.
• Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journal entries for assets, gifts in kind, leases and bank-related transactions.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts to subsidiary records monthly.
• Prepare bank reconciliation reports and supporting documentation.
• Assist payroll accounting including benefits and reclassifications.
• Maintain affiliate trial balances and intercompany allocations.
• Publish operating procedures for financial accounting processes.
• Support transformation projects with data analysis and testing.
