Job summary

Maximus seeks a Lead Finance and Accounting Analyst to drive financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic analysis in a shared services environment. Lead monthly close, cost allocations, and accruals while delivering executive dashboards with actionable insights for senior leadership.

You will partner across the organization on quarterly forecasts, pricing initiatives, and process improvements, leveraging automation and modern tools to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI.
  • Experience with large, complex data sets and multiple financial systems (e.g. Cognos, Costpoint, TM1).
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot to enhance analysis and reporting efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Profit and Loss analysis, including variances to forecasts; assist with division-level P&L responsibilities.
  • Review Earned/Unbilled Reconciliations for accuracy and corrections.
  • Review monthly project billing submissions with proper documentation and approvals.
  • Track outstanding Accounts Receivable reports for management review.
  • Prepare quarterly revenue adjustments for indirect rates.

Maximus is seeking a Lead Finance and Accounting Analyst to drive financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic analysis within a complex, shared services environment. This role leads monthly close activities, including cost allocations and accruals, and delivers executive‑level dashboards with actionable insights for senior leadership.

The Lead Finance and Accounting Analyst partners cross‑functionally to support quarterly forecasting, business development, and pricing initiatives, while presenting clear, data‑driven recommendations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare Profit and Loss analysis, including analysis of actual variances to forecasts. Assist with division level P&L responsibilities.

  • Review Earned/Unbilled Reconciliations for accuracy and completeness; work with finance staff to make necessary corrections.

  • Review monthly project billing submissions for adequate supporting documentation and proper approvals.

  • Track outstanding Accounts Receivable reports for management review.

  • Prepare any quarterly revenue adjustments required to correct revenue for impact of billed indirect rates exceeding expected actual rates.

  • In conjunction with Financial Analyst, track costs, billing/invoice adjustments, contract-to-date expenditures for sub-contractors and temporary labor.

  • Prepare Contract Information Form (CIF) for review by management.

  • Oversee/review monthly accruals.

  • Responsible for ad hoc reporting requests.

  • Review of supporting documentation that accompanies invoice package.

  • Prepare or assist in preparation of pricing and other cost estimates, including those related to contract amendments/task orders as needed.

  • Participate in internal and external audits and maintain reports and data related to and necessary for audits.

  • Mentor and train junior financial analysts.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

'- Lead monthly cost allocation and accruals processes by consolidating multiple data sources, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial results.

  • Develop and deliver monthly financial dashboards, providing detailed variance analysis and actionable insights to VP-level and senior leadership stakeholders.

  • Execute quarterly forecasting cycles for a large, complex shared services organization, partnering with cross-functional and project-level stakeholders to ensure alignment and accuracy.

  • Present monthly financial results, variance drivers, and quarterly forecast updates to senior leadership, translating complex financial data into clear business insights.

  • Support business development and internal stakeholders by performing detailed pricing and cost analyses for new and expanding projects.

  • Continuously enhance reporting, forecasting, and planning processes through automation, standardization, and tool modernization to improve efficiency and data integrity.

  • Design and build ad hoc financial models, dashboards, and analytical tools to support evolving business needs and improve decision‑making visibility.

  • Ensure strong financial governance by maintaining consistent methodologies, documentation, and controls across reporting and forecasting activities.

Minimum Requirements

'- Bachelors degree in related field.

  • 7-10 years of relevant professional experience.

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting (preferably within shared services or multi-project environments).

  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI.

  • Experience working with large, complex data sets and multiple financial systems (e.g. Cognos, Costpoint, TM1).

  • Familiarity with AI‑enabled productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot to enhance analysis and reporting efficiency.

  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage with senior stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting cost allocation models or internal service organizations.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience streamlining or automating financial processes.
