Job summary

Legacy Engineering in Fredericksburg, VA seeks a Survey Party Chief to lead field operations across boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction layout surveys. You will supervise crews, ensure data quality, and coordinate daily field activities in a dynamic environment.

Ideal candidates bring strong GPS/RTK and total station experience, read plans confidently, and can manage client relationships on-site while maintaining high safety standards and professional conduct.

Qualifications

• 2+ years leading a survey field crew (Party Chief/CreW Chief).
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Proficiency in GPS surveying (RTK/static), total stations, and data collectors.
• Experience with Leica survey equipment (robots and controllers preferred).
• Ability to read blueprints, plats, maps and site plans.
• Knowledge of deeds, legal descriptions, field notes, and construction documents.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage field crews on survey projects, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction layout surveys.
• Ensure accuracy, quality control, and adherence to project specifications.
• Train, mentor, and supervise survey crew members.
• Conduct daily briefings and debriefings to track progress and address field issues.
• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture; ensure compliance with all safety guidelines.
• Build and maintain client relationships while representing the company in the field.
• Support additional field and project duties as needed.
