Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Crew Chief to lead a field survey crew in Rutherford, NJ. You will perform boundary, topo, ALTA/NSPS, as-built, and construction layout surveys, coordinating daily field operations and communicating with project stakeholders.

Authority to operate GPS units, total stations, data collectors, and robotic instruments, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to safety standards. On-site, hourly with overtime eligibility, in a civil/construction setting.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in land surveying, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, as-built, and construction layout surveys.
• Strong proficiency in operating survey instruments such as GPS units, total stations, data collectors, and robotic instruments.
• Hands‑on experience with topographic surveys and construction-related surveying activities.
• Ability to accurately collect, verify, and document field survey data and maintain detailed field notes.
• Knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, and standards applicable to civil and construction projects.
• Experience working with total stations and related equipment, including systems such as Leica.
• Strong organizational skills to coordinate daily field activities, schedules, and site logistics.
• Effective communication skills to interact with Project Managers, clients, contractors, and field crew members.
• Commitment to enforcing and following safety procedures on jobsites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a field survey crew on assigned projects, providing direction and support to ensure efficient and accurate work.
• Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, as-built, and construction layout surveys in accordance with applicable standards and project specifications.
• Operate and maintain survey equipment, including GPS units, total stations, data collectors, and robotic instruments, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
• Collect, verify, and document field data with a high level of accuracy and completeness for use in project deliverables.
• Coordinate daily activities, schedules, and site logistics for survey operations to meet project timelines and objectives.
• Ensure all survey work complies with project requirements, company standards, and industry best practices.
• Review field notes and survey data to confirm accuracy, consistency, and completeness before submission.
• Communicate regularly with Project Managers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide updates on project progress and address field-related issues.
• Maintain survey vehicles, equipment, and supplies in good working order, reporting and addressing any maintenance needs promptly.
• Enforce company safety procedures in the field and actively participate in jobsite safety meetings to promote a safe working environment.
