Here to Serve Renewables in the United States is seeking a Lead Field Service Technician who can diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across utility-scale solar installations.

You will lead field crews, own field execution, interface with clients, and deliver thorough documentation while traveling nationwide.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of in-field experience in utility-scale solar (O&M and/or construction).
  • Proven expertise with ground fault detection, testing, and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience leading crews in field environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve issues across utility-scale solar systems (DC & AC).
  • Perform ground fault detection, isolation, and repair.
  • Execute advanced DC field troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair inverters (string & central).
  • Support work in substations and switchyards (preferred experience).
  • Interpret schematics, single-line diagrams, and system layouts.
  • Lead and manage medium to large field crews.
  • Set the tone for safety, quality, and urgency on site.
  • Ensure work is completed on time and to spec.
  • Hold team members accountable—no babysitting, no excuses.
  • Serve as a frontline representative with customers on-site.
  • Communicate issues, timelines, and solutions clearly and professionally.
  • Support project execution, punch lists, and warranty work.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed service reports; document steps and resolutions; track materials and progress.

Position Overview

The Senior Field Service Technician is a high-level technical leader responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues across utility-scale solar and related infrastructure.

This role goes beyond turning wrenches—you will:

  • Lead crews
  • Own field execution
  • Interface with clients
  • Deliver clean, professional documentation

Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across utility-scale solar systems (DC & AC)
  • Perform ground fault detection, isolation, and repair
  • Execute advanced DC field troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair inverters (string & central)
  • Support work in substations and switchyards (preferred experience)

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of in-field experience in utility-scale solar (O&M and/or construction)
  • Proven expertise with:
  • Ground fault detection, testing, and repair
  • DC systems troubleshooting
  • Inverter diagnostics and repair
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
  • Demonstrated experience leading crews in field environments
  • Strong administrative discipline—if it’s not documented, it didn’t happen
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with substations and switchyards
  • OSHA 30 Certification (preferred)
  • Electrical certifications or licensed electrician background
  • OEM inverter training (SMA, Power Electronics, Sungrow, GE, etc.)
