Job summary

Honeywell is seeking a Lead Field Service HVAC Controls/BAS Technician to provide advanced technical support and service for HVAC control systems and building automation at our Herndon, VA location on a hybrid schedule.

You will lead onsite installation, commissioning, and service, mentor junior technicians, and coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and customers to ensure project success and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in HVAC controls and building automation systems.
• 3+ years of experience with strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and BAS technologies.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex HVAC control issues.
• 3+ years of experience with programming and configuring HVAC control systems, including DDC controllers and software.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Must be a US citizen.
• Must be able to complete a DoD secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead onsite installation, commissioning, and service of Honeywell BAS, including DDC controllers and networked devices.
• Serve as the technical lead on projects, mentoring junior technicians and subcontractors.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics of HVAC control systems (VAVs, AHUs, chillers, boilers, sensors, actuators).
• Program, configure, and commission Honeywell platforms (Spyder, CIPer, WEBs, EBI, Comfort Point/Open, Niagara).
• Interpret drawings and sequences of operation to validate system functionality.
• Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, engineers, customers, and trades to maintain schedules.
• Identify system optimization opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reliability.
• Ensure documentation, redlines, service reports, and as-built drawings adhere to Honeywell standards.
• Maintain adherence to safety protocols and site requirements.

Job description

As aLead Field Service HVAC Controls/BAS Technicianhere at Honeywell, you will be responsible for providing advanced technical support and service forHVAC control systems and building automation systems (BAS).You will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our systems, while also leading a team of technicians to deliver exceptional service to our customers.

You will report directly to our Service Manager and you'll work out of ourHerndon, VAlocation on a Remote work schedule.

In this role, you will impact customer satisfaction and operational efficiency by troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex HVAC control issues, while also mentoring junior technicians and ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead onsite installation, commissioning, and service of HoneywellBuilding Automation Systems (BAS), including DDC controllers, HVAC equipment, and networked control devices.
• Serve as the technical lead on projects, providing direction and mentorship to junior technicians and subcontractors to ensure quality and timely execution.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics ofHVAC controls systems, including VAVs, AHUs, chillers, boilers, sensors, actuators, and communication networks (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
• Program, configure, and commission Honeywell platforms such as Spyder, CIPer, WEBs, EBI, Comfort Point and Comfort Point Open and Niagara-based systems.
• Interpret control drawings, wiring schematics, and sequences of operation to validate system functionality and ensure proper integration.
• Coordinate directly with supervisors, project managers, engineers, customers, and other trades to resolve technical issues and maintain project schedules.
• Identify system optimization opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and overall building performance.
• Ensure accurate documentation, redlines, service reports, and as-built drawings are completed and submitted in accordance with Honeywell standards.
• Maintain strict adherence to Honeywell safety protocols, quality processes, and customer site compliance requirements.

Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE

• 3 years or more of experience inHVAC controls and building automation systems.
• 3 years or more of experience with strong technical knowledge ofHVAC systems, controls, and BAS technologies.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex HVAC control issues.
• 3 years or more of experience with programming and configuringHVAC control systems, including DDC controllers and software.
• Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check, in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
• Must be a us citizen
• Must be able to complete a DOD secret clearance

WE VALUE

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related field.
• Niagara (Niagara 4) Certification preferredor willing to get certification.
• Advanced knowledge of Honeywell BAS platforms (Spyder, CIPer, WEBs, EBI).
• Strong troubleshooting skills acrossHVAC controls, DDC systems, and open protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks),
• Prior experience leading field technicians and coordinating onsite activities.
• NICET or other industry certifications.
• Strong customer communication and technical documentation skills.

The annual base salary range for this position is$69,700.00 - $105,000.00.Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell Technologies considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market andbusiness considerations.
