Job summary

Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Experimental Relativistic Heavy-Ion Physics. The appointment is to begin August 2027 in the Department of Physics & Astronomy, West Lafayette, IN.

The successful candidate will establish an externally funded program, lead research across RHIC/STAR/sPHENIX, LHC/CMS, and EIC initiatives, mentor graduate students and postdocs, and contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

• PhD in Nuclear Physics or closely related field by start of the appointment.
• Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated record of research accomplishments in nuclear physics, evidenced by publications and presentations at leading conferences.

Responsibilities

• Establish a vibrant, externally funded research program and lead cutting-edge science in existing experiments while spearheading new hardware, software, and/or physics initiatives for EIC.
• Mentor graduate students and postdocs.
• Contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Spearhead initiatives for EIC and AI-facilitated research in DOE's Genesis Mission.
