Job summary

Penumbra, Inc. in Alameda, California is seeking a Lead Facilities Technician to manage maintenance and oversee service vendors.

You will lead efforts to keep the facilities clean, safe, and efficient, while coordinating with the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor on staffing, materials, and equipment needs. The role requires a High School diploma with 6+ years in facility maintenance and the ability to work Monday–Friday, 12 pm–8:30 pm.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with 6+ years of experience in facility maintenance including electrical, plumbing, HVAC and data systems.
  • Experience working with safety orders and general industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to use standard office tools and MS Office applications.
  • Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated industry experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Facilities Technicians in carrying out duties to ensure client requests are fulfilled and primary job responsibilities are performed.
  • Provide feedback to Facilities management, and lead the work of facilities team and contract maintenance or services vendors to ensure all maintenance activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Perform and/or lead regular checks and preventive maintenance on facilities-related equipment and systems.
  • Respond to scheduled and unscheduled service and repair requests including plumbing and electrical issues, and other repairs as needed.
  • Check the work order system daily and coordinate/re-assign work requests to facilitate timely completion.
  • Coordinate employee and department moves and furniture re-configurations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety orders, QA systems, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

General Summary

The Lead Facilities Technician is responsible for performing and, at times, leading the general repair and maintenance of the company’s facilities and grounds. Coordinate the work of service providers such as janitorial and cleaning services, plumbing services, and other facilities-related vendors as needed. Coordinate with Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in administering day-to-day staffing, materials, equipment, and resources required to maintain the facility and grounds and provide facility services to the site. Lead Facilities Technicians in coordinating work requests and the work process. Help support the overall goal of maintaining a neat, clean, and comfortable work environment to allow employees and customers to carry out their responsibilities with minimal disruption due to facilities-related issues.

Must be available Monday to Friday, 12 pm to 8:30 PM
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead Facilities Technicians in carrying out duties to ensure client requests are fulfilled and primary job responsibilities are performed.*
  • Provide feedback to Facilities management, as well as lead the work of facilities team and contract maintenance or services vendors to ensure all maintenance activities are completed at a high quality standard in a timely manner.*
  • Perform and/or lead regular checks and preventive maintenance on facilities‑related equipment and systems.*
  • Respond to scheduled and unscheduled service and repair requests, including but not limited to plumbing and electrical issues, repairing walls, ceilings, flooring, doors, and other surfaces when needed. *
  • Check the work order system daily for work requests assigned to facilities technicians. Work with technicians to coordinate work and re-assign work requests as necessary to facilitate completion on a timely basis*
  • Work with Facilities management and team to coordinate and carry out employee and department moves and furniture re-configurations.
  • Comply with state’s general industry safety orders that apply to facilities‑related activities, including safe work practices and personal protection, fire protection, lock out–tag out, hazardous materials, material handling and movement, ladder safety, and other safety requirements. Enforce these safety standards within the team.*
  • Adhere to the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. *
  • Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. *
  • Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. *
  • Perform other work‑related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications
Minimum education and experience:
  • High School diploma with 6+ years of experience in facility maintenance including electrical, plumbing, HVAC and Data, and all related systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Additional qualifications:
  • Ability to use standard powered and non-powered tools, ability to work on a ladder
  • Working knowledge of standard office tools and MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Knowledge of state’s general industry safety orders that apply to facilities‑related activities
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate with all employees, contractors and suppliers
  • Ability to comprehend the English language sufficient to understand information such as labels and instructions, receive job assignments and communicate progress and/or completion of assignment
  • Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industry experience desired
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments while handling various projects simultaneously
Working Conditions
  • General office, warehouse, cleanroom, and shipping and receiving environments as well as roof and building exteriors
  • Potential exposure to chemicals and blood‑borne pathogens
  • Requires some unassisted lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Schedule may vary to include evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness and ability to work on site.
  • May have business travel from 0% - 10%
  • Must be able to move between buildings and floors.
  • Must be able to remain stationary and use a computer or other standard office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine, for an extensive period of time each day.
  • Must be able to read, prepare emails, and produce documents and spreadsheets.
  • Must be able to move within the office and access file cabinets or supplies, as needed.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information with employees at all levels on a daily basis.

Base Pay Range Per Hour

$40.00 – 47.00 Plus 10% shift differential.

Individual compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, work location and shift, and will increase over time based on meeting performance and business needs.
