Associated Students, San Francisco State University is seeking a Lead Event Technician to oversee the daily operations of the Technical Services Department and support event AV needs, ensuring smooth execution of each production.

Applicants must be currently enrolled at SFSU with the required unit load, have AV equipment experience, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work under deadlines. Wage is $20.27/hr, up to 20 hours/week, start Sept 28, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at SFSU with the required units for undergrad/grad.
  • Experience operating and maintaining AV equipment including sound reinforcement and video.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a changing event schedule.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of AS principles and practices; quick learner of AS structure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of the Technical Services Department.
  • Assist in training new staff.
  • Ensure daily event schedule is followed and completed on time.
  • Develop ideas with AV Systems Manager to improve department performance.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of equipment storage.
  • Supervise and instruct staff during setup, operation and strike of events.
  • Meet with AVSM on a regular basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the AV Systems Manager.

Job Description:


  • Lead the daily operations of the Technical Services Department.

  • Assist in training new staff.

  • Ensure daily event schedule is adhered to and completed on time.

  • Develop and share ideas with Audio Visual Systems Manager in regard to improving department performance.

  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of equipment inventory and storage.

  • Supervise and instruct Technical Services employees during the setup, operation and strike of events.

  • Meet with AVSM on a continuous basis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Audio-Visual Systems Manager.


Qualifications:


  • Must be currently enrolled at SFSU with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates.

  • Equipment operation and maintenance experience, including sound reinforcement, video, general audio/visual systems and equipment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain a professional while working under pressure and meeting deadlines with a constantly changing event schedule.

  • Quick thinking, problem solving, positive attitude.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of AS.

  • Knowledge or ability to quickly learn the structure and procedures of AS.


Physical Demands


  • Physical effort is required in the form of walking, lifting, kneeling and pushing

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and A/V equipment

  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or reaching to retrieve and file records

  • Lifting no more than 50 lbs
