Job summary

State of Delaware, Laurel location, is seeking an Equipment Operator IV level role within the Maintenance & Operations division. The position requires controlling self-propelled equipment, performing complex road maintenance tasks, and responding to storm and emergency events with proper safety procedures.

The incumbent will work under minimal supervision, coordinate with crews, and handle tasks from grading to equipment maintenance while ensuring compliance with state standards and safety

Qualifications

• Six months operating self-propelled mobile equipment on varied terrain.
• Six months constructing drainage systems for storm water management and road work.
• Six months establishing traffic controls in work zones.
• Six months preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of record keeping.
• Valid CDL Class B with Airbrake restriction (not suspended, revoked or cancelled).

Responsibilities

• Drive and control off-road equipment to haul supplies to the work site.
• Operate equipment with integrated systems by coding controls and adjusting levers.
• Dig, ditch, grade, backfill, and excavate with mobile equipment.
• Load/unload rock, debris, and materials using various tools.
• Perform general repairs on roads, grounds, and structures.
• Respond to environmental or highway emergencies to manage spills and hazards.
• Use traffic control techniques to manage traffic movements.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and pre/post walk-around inspections.
• May operate bridges for water and roadway traffic.
