Job summary

K’A Power Group in Orange, Connecticut is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to lead engineering and design efforts for utility-scale projects. You will oversee scoping, budgeting, conceptual design, and contractor coordination, ensuring compliance with IEEE standards and company policies.

The role requires eight years of substations experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to mentor team members. This hybrid position reports to the office Tuesday-Thursday.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Eight years of professional experience in substation design for electrical utilities.
  • Familiarity with grounding studies or lightning protection is a plus.
  • Experience with Greenfields and Brownfields.
  • Knowledge of IEEE Standards as they pertain to substations.
  • Experience with power analysis software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).
  • Substation design experience including general arrangement, equipment, wiring, grounding, and schematics.
  • Proficient with MS Projects, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Hybrid position: reports to the office Tuesday-Thursday.
  • Work Authorization Required.

Responsibilities

  • Project engineering performance and overseeing all phases from scoping and budgeting to closeout.
  • Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs, and calculations.
  • Lead and create new conceptual designs based on Avangrid Standards and oversee external detailed designers.
  • Ensure designs meet codes and standards.
  • Influence and guide department engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects.
  • Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills.
  • SME for team.
  • Liaison with contractors on policy, standards and best practices.
  • Work independently with little supervision.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lead Substation Engineer to join our team at K\u2019A Power Group in Orange, Connecticut. Responsibilities
  • Project engineering performance and overseeing including all phases such as scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction and closeout.
  • Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations.
  • Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs based on Avangrid Standards and overseeing the work of external detailed designers ensuring consistency among all the operating companies.
  • Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
  • Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership in most complex projects that have a wide impact on the business.
  • Mentor develop and support team in technical skills.
  • SME for team.
  • Liaison/direct contractors on company policy, standards and best practices.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience within substation design and engineering for electrical utilities.
  • Familiarity with grounding studies and/or lightning protection is a plus.
  • Experience with Greenfields and Brownfields.
  • General knowledge and application of IEEE Standards as they pertain to substations.
  • Experience and or knowledge with power analysis software is ideal (i.e. SKM, Etap, Easy Power, etc.).
  • Proven experience in Substation Design should include general arrangement, electrical equipment, plans, elevation and section views, equipment cable trays, cable design, conduit fill calcs, rigid bus calcs, grounding and conduit layouts, control schematics, wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Projects, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Hybrid Position (reports to the office Tuesday-Thursday).
  • Work Authorization Required.
Pay Range

$115,000 - $130,000 annually.

The salary range for this role considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to technical ability, experience and training, licenses and certifications, and other related skillsets. The disclosed range is an estimate and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
