Allstate is seeking a Software Engineer Senior Manager who will lead critical engineering groups, architect digital products, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. The role emphasizes ownership of production systems, KPI-driven outcomes, and collaboration with multiple teams to drive architectural excellence.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in Java and Cobol, with deep experience in REST APIs, Spring Boot, microservices, and modern security practices (OAuth/OpenID/SAML).

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Java and Cobol.
• Experience in developing REST APIs using Java Spring Boot and API documentation tooling (Swagger/OpenAPI).
• Hands-on experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud-based Microservices architectures.
• Knowledge of web and API security including OAuth, OpenID, and SAML.
• Backend design with databases (MongoDB) and Kafka messaging.
• Experience with Git, CI tools (Jenkins, Maven/Gradle, Artifactory).
• Familiarity with Agile environments and collaborative engineering practices.
• Python experience is a plus.

Job Description

The Software Engineer Senior Manager is the direct leader of more critical groups with significant responsibilities. These groups may sometimes be more heavily resourced with more senior staff or more staff in general or be responsible for more technically complex or strategically important parts of the architecture or product. Software Engineer Senior Manager are expected to build relationships throughout the organization to ensure whole-company alignment and support for their goals, and vice-versa. The Software Engineer Senior Manager architects and designs their digital products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. They apply a systematic application of scientific and technological knowledge, methods, and experience to the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software. They own and manage running their application in production, and ultimately becomes accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving KPIs.

Experience

• 10 or more years of experience Java and Cobol

• Experience and knowledge in developing REST APIs using Java Spring boot, including tooling for documentation (swagger, REST-docs, OpenAPI spec), versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management; experience using API gateways a plus.

• Hands on experience and accountability architecting, designing, implementing and delivering large scale distributed systems and/or applications for the cloud, including MicroServices architectures.

• Experience and knowledge in web and API security including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML.

• Experience in backend development design and implementation, database (MongoDB, caching) and Kafka messaging.

• Knowledge and experience using distributed version control systems (git), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (maven, gradle, npm, artifactory, etc ) and Jenkins or similar Continuous Integration tools .

• Experience of working in an Agile environment or paired programming/engineering model.

• Experience with Python is a plus..

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 151,700.00 - 221,675.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
