We are supporting a rapidly growing power generation business delivering large-scale generation projects for hyperscale data center and industrial customers across the United States.
As the business continues to scale, they are looking to appoint a senior Lead Electrical Engineer / Electrical SME who can take technical ownership of the electrical scope across their power generation portfolio.
The critical requirement is deep experience in gas turbine power generation and electrical balance of plant, with the ability to act as the senior technical authority from design and equipment selection through construction, commissioning and operation.
The Role
You will act as the electrical SME across multiple power generation projects, providing technical leadership to internal engineering teams, EPC partners, equipment vendors, contractors and customers.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead electrical engineering activities across gas turbine power generation projects and associated electrical balance of plant.
- Serve as the senior technical authority for electrical engineering across the project portfolio.
- Review and approve electrical engineering deliverables including one-line diagrams, schematics, equipment specifications, layouts, protection philosophies and construction documentation.
- Provide technical leadership across generator systems, excitation, synchronisation, transformers, switchgear, auxiliary power systems, grounding, cabling and associated plant electrical infrastructure.
- Lead or review power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and grounding studies.
- Establish electrical engineering standards, specifications and design practices as the generation fleet continues to scale.
- Support construction, installation, energisation, commissioning and startup activities.
- Resolve complex technical issues involving generators, excitation systems, protection, switchgear, transformers and wider electrical BOP systems.
- Work closely with gas turbine OEMs, EPC contractors, utilities, engineering consultants and equipment suppliers.
- Support procurement through equipment specifications, RFQs, technical bid evaluations and vendor drawing reviews.
- Act as a senior technical point of contact with customers and external engineering teams.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across multiple concurrent projects.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions associated with electrical equipment or plant performance issues.
- Contribute to the continued development and standardisation of electrical systems across a rapidly expanding generation portfolio.
Experience Required
- We are particularly interested in engineers with 10+ years of electrical engineering experience and significant exposure to gas-fired power generation.
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline is required. PE registration is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Candidates must already be legally authorised to work in the United States without requiring employment visa sponsorship.
- Strong candidates are likely to bring experience across several of the following areas:
- Gas turbine power plants, including simple-cycle and/or combined-cycle generation.
- Electrical balance of plant.
- Generators, excitation/AVR systems and synchronisation.
- Generator and distribution protection.
- Medium and high-voltage switchgear.
- Power transformers and generator step-up transformers.
- Plant auxiliary electrical systems.
- Substations and power distribution.
- Electrical commissioning and plant startup.
- ETAP, SKM or similar power system analysis software.
- Load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, grounding and arc flash studies.
- EPC project execution and vendor management.
- Electrical equipment specification and procurement.
- Experience with large-scale BESS, microgrids or hybrid generation systems would be useful but is not essential.
