Job summary

Eaton’s PCS Group (Protection, Controls and Solutions) Advanced Technology Team is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to drive embedded electronics development for next-generation protection products. The role is onsite in Moon Township, PA with a hybrid option (3 onsite/2 remote) and relocation sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical embedded hardware portion of designs for solid state/power electronic-based circuit breakers.
  • Coordinate PCBA layout designs with PCBA teams in accordance with standards and specifications.
  • Develop product technical requirements with marketing and applications teams.
  • Plan work in detail with schedules, requirements, designs, test plans, and issue tracking; work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners.
  • Lead design reviews and follow Eaton’s phase-gate process; drive innovation and cross-functional collaboration.

Job description

Eaton’s PCS Group (Protection, Controls and Solutions) Advanced Technology Team is currently seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our fast-paced team of engineers in developing cutting-edge technology for our next generation products. This position will be located onsite in Moon Township, PA, and a hybrid work model is available (3 onsite/2 remote). Sponsorship is available, as well as relocation assistance for candidates currently residing within the US/PR.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $105000 - $154000 a year.

What You’ll Do

This role will help drive the design and development of embedded electronics used as the controls for our next generation circuit protection products for both AC and DC applications. As an engineering lead, you will work within the Advanced Technology Team to lead the development and design of core protection and controls devices and their capabilities to support technological advancements and major trends in circuit protection. As part of a cross-functional team of dedicated engineers, you’ll experience the excitement of bringing new products to life from design concept through to full customer prototype.

The primary function is to lead the electrical design and development of embedded electronics for power electronics-based circuit protection products. This includes creating functionality related to embedded processing, hardware drivers, analog signal processing, protection, power supply, metering, communication, and user interface

Essential Functions
  • Electrical Hardware Design: Lead sub-system electrical embedded hardware portion of designs for solid state/power electronic-based circuit breakers. Conduct circuit simulation to verify correct operation and test boundary conditions. Coordinate PCBA layout designs with dedicated PCBA personnel in accordance with industry standards, certifications, and specifications.
  • Product Requirements and Compliance: Develop product technical requirements in collaboration with marketing and application teams. Specify and conduct testing at the PCBA, component, and system levels. Create electrical designs in accordance with practices required to comply with agency regulations.
  • Product Development: Conduct and participate in design reviews to ensure quality. Follow Eaton’s phase-gate new product development process. Plan work in detail, including schedules, requirements definition, detailed designs, test plans, and issue tracking. Work cross-functionally with internal teams, external research partners, marketing, applications, PCBA teams, and broader development groups.
  • Research and Innovation: Perform and contribute to technical research and investigations. Collaborate with Eaton Research Labs, Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources such as National Labs and Universities. Actively participate in and help drive innovation events aimed at creating novel technical solutions. Generate value-added intellectual property. Continue technical career growth and development related to electrical design and other relevant areas of expertise.
What will make you successful?

An ideal candidate brings strong expertise in embedded hardware design, including proficiency with Altium schematic capture and circuit design tools, along with experience developing solutions for AC/DC power systems. You have a solid understanding of communication protocols such as USB, Modbus, CAN, and Ethernet, as well as embedded firmware development for microcontrollers including ARM Cortex and PIC platforms. You are skilled in hardware validation and troubleshooting, with experience creating detailed test plans and using diagnostic tools such as digital oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. You are a hands-on engineer who thrives in the practical development, testing and innovation of electrical products. Qualifications
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant related degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 4 years of experience developing embedded hardware for electronic devices
  • Experience developing circuit schematics and conducting electronic simulation
  • Experience working with oscilloscopes and power supplies to verify circuit performance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience designing power supply related electronics circuits
  • Experience related to design for EMC and EMC testing
  • Experience designing embedded systems for circuit protection applications
  • Design For Six Sigma certification
