Job summary

Henderson Engineers, a leading ESOP-based engineering firm, seeks an Electrical Engineer/Designer to guide complex building electrical systems from concept through completion, mentor teammates, and ensure quality across mission-critical and data-center projects.

You will collaborate with clients and practice leaders to deliver safe, code-compliant, and efficient designs that meet client visions while advancing Henderson’s culture of innovation and service excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, fire protection, or architectural engineering.
• 9+ years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred, required for Engineer of Record roles.
• Additional certifications (e.g., RCDD, NICET, CPD, LEED, WELL) highly preferred.
• Advanced to expert proficiency in electrical engineering design, applicable codes/standards, Revit and Bluebeam, and construction processes.
• MEP/Construction industry experience.
• High technical aptitude and ability to learn and apply multiple systems.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering design from concept through completion on complex or large-scale projects.
• Direct or oversee preparation of design documents, layouts, schematics, and specifications.
• Develop solutions to advanced engineering problems and provide technical guidance.
• Mentor and coach designers and engineers across teams and practices.
• Participate in staffing, training, and technical strategy development.
• Provide QA/QC through final reviews to ensure standards compliance.

Summary

Electrical Engineers and Electrical Designers are responsible for the design, coordination, documentation, and delivery of electrical building systems for our Mission Critical/Data Center practices. Depending on experience level, individuals may perform engineering calculations, prepare and review design documents, coordinate with project teams, manage tasks or projects, provide technical leadership, mentor others, and support business development activities.

Electrical system design is no longer as simple as lighting and power design overlaid onto an architectural background. Our engineers understand that the electrical system forms the foundation that makes the building come to life. It’s a responsibility that we take very seriously.

Position Summary

Responsible for guiding complex electrical engineering efforts. This role provides advanced technical expertise, leads teams, oversees project quality, mentor’s designers and engineers, resolves major design and construction challenges, and contributes to practice-level strategy, operations, and business development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering design from concept through completion for complex or large-scale projects.
• Direct or oversee the preparation of design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Develop solutions to advanced and highly complex engineering problems, providing discipline-wide technical guidance.
• Serve as a mentor and coach across teams and practices, including supervising less experienced designers and engineers.
• Participate in or lead staffing recommendations, training initiatives, and technical strategy development.
• Provide quality oversight, including conducting and/or issuing final quality reviews to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
• Communicate with clients, resolve conflicts, and provide leadership in responding to technical questions or design challenges.
• Lead or support strategic business development efforts and maintain key client and partner relationships.
• Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned, ensuring technical accuracy, accountability, and adherence to professional standards.
