We are seeking a Lead Electrical Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership for industrial automation projects while mentoring engineering staff and serving as the primary technical resource for customers. This role combines hands‑on PLC programming and system integration with project leadership, commissioning, and customer support. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial automation, Rockwell control systems, and leading projects from concept through startup.
Responsibilities
- Lead automation and controls projects from design through commissioning, ensuring quality, schedule, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Controls Engineers and Automation Technicians.
- Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and industrial control systems.
- Establish programming standards, review code, and ensure consistency across engineering projects.
- Review customer specifications and develop cost-effective automation solutions.
- Coordinate engineering activities with customers, vendors, manufacturing, and project management.
- Lead system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service activities at customer facilities.
- Provide advanced technical support for complex automation and electrical control issues.
- Assist with proposal development, project estimating, and technical sales support.
- Evaluate automation hardware and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
- Maintain project documentation, testing procedures, and engineering standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of industrial controls or automation engineering experience.
- Proven experience leading automation projects and mentoring junior engineers.
- Strong experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including:
- Studio 5000 / RSLogix 500
- FactoryTalk View Studio
- Connected Components Workbench
- Microsoft Office
- Strong understanding of PLC programming, HMI development, electrical controls, and industrial automation system design.
- Experience with industrial Ethernet networking and communication protocols.
- SQL and VBA experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of industrial power distribution is preferred.
- Ability to travel as needed for project startup, commissioning, and customer support.
- Ability to work safely in industrial environments while wearing required PPE.
