Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced transmission design engineer to lead the design of lines from 69kV up to 765kV. The role also requires SME-level work on 500kV/765kV projects, mentoring junior team members, and coordinating with clients to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.

You will prepare reports, perform independent design reviews, and contribute to overall project success with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in PLS-CADD-based designs.

Qualifications

• BS degree from ABET-accredited engineering program.
• 12 years of transmission design experience.
• 3+ years in 500kV/765kV transmission line design.
• Familiarity with electrical considerations for 765kV lines.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
• Experience coordinating with clients on lines 69kV–765kV.
• Need for bilingual Spanish/English skills (read, speak, write).

Responsibilities may include the following:

• Lead the design of transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
• Serve as a subject matter specialist in 500kV and 765kV transmission lines
• Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
• Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
• Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Dependent upon your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

• BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• 12 years of transmission design experience.
• 3 or more years of experience in 500kV and/or 765kV transmission line design
• Familiarity with the electrical considerations for 765kV transmission lines
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
• Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
• Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 765kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
• Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
• Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (read, speak, and write).

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• PE license
• PMP certification
• Construction experience
• Familiarity with ArcGIS
