Job summary

Staples is seeking a Lead Driver in Berkeley to train and mentor drivers, coordinate daily routing, and support supervisors. You will deliver office supplies on assigned routes, assist with loading, and ensure safety processes are followed for efficient service.

The role requires a valid license, ability to pass DOT checks, and lifting up to 70 lbs. Schedule is 3:30pm-12:00am, Monday–Friday, with full-time benefits and opportunities to grow within Staples’ logistics team.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
• Must obtain a 6-month DOT medical card.
• Basic English language skills (verbal and written).
• Overtime may be required to meet business needs.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and handle up to 400 lbs with equipment.

Responsibilities

• Train and mentor new delivery drivers and fill in for supervisors.
• Lead daily routing and delivery scheduling with the Supervisor.
• Transport products and deliver office supplies on route.
• Load vehicles as volume requires and ensure route efficiency.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform pre-trip inspections.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Lead Driver, you will train and mentor new delivery drivers and fill in for supervisors and cover drivers as needed. You will lead daily completion of work to include scheduling and assisting with deliveries, performing routing functions and partnering with the Supervisor to address and resolve any issues.

In this role, you will transport products safely and deliver office supplies on your assigned route to customers. You will manage the routes for Drivers in the building.

At times, depending on volume, you will load vehicles. You will organize and load product for delivery utilizing the manifest assuring the most efficient delivery route and schedule.

What you bring to the table:

• An ability to be a safe and courteous driver who can navigate your way around a map and all kinds of weather and road conditions.

Basic Qualifications:

• Must have a valid drivers’ license with a driving record indicating a safe driving history acceptable to the company and at all times remain eligible to drive a commercial motor vehicle under applicable laws and regulations.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen (No THC) to the extent legally permissible.
• Must obtain a 6-month DOT medical card specific to the role.
• Basic English language skills (both verbal and written communications).
• Full-Time associates must have the ability to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift; additional overtime hours will be required based on business needs.
• Ability to lift up to 70lbs, push and pull items weighing up to 400 lbs with the assistance of hand carts/material handling equipment, and occasionally maneuver up to 130 lbs.
• Must wear safety composite shoes.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 1-year of truck driving experience (operating a 16ft or longer straight truck) or comparable driving experience.
• High volume / small package delivery experience.
