Azalea Therapeutics in Berkeley, CA is seeking a Principal Engineer I/II, Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) - Viral Vector Downstream, to lead external downstream process strategies and technology transfer with CDMOs, moving EDV and AAV programs toward first-in-human readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical/biochemical engineering or related field with 12+ years of experience.
• Master’s degree with 10+ years; PhD with 8+ years acceptable.
• Direct viral vector experience and downstream processing expertise.
• Experience managing CDMOs and external manufacturing partnerships.
• Strong data analysis, risk assessment, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the external downstream process strategy for EDV and AAV programs.
• Provide technical leadership for pilot, engineering, and GMP manufacturing runs.
• Own downstream technology transfer to CDMOs with transfer plans and criteria.
• Collaborate with Analytical Development and Quality Control on controls and sampling.
• Mentor contributors and influence cross-functional decisions with limited oversight.
• Partner with PD, Regulatory, QA, and External partners to align manufacturing with milestones.
