Job description

Overview

Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Minneapolis, MN area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll work directly with clients to ensure Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is maintained. This role offers exposure to NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

This position is hybrid in nature, with 3 days/week in office and 2 days/week remote.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; may work on programmatic/capital/reliability design (e.g., 3rd party attachment/Make Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc. designs)

  • Be responsible for QAQC tasks on your assigned team; participate in quality reviews of designs prior to submittals

  • Review engineering design packages with clients; review and organize existing program work

  • Perform scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to support client priorities

  • Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as-needed basis

  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met

  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications

  • Be comfortable in both field and office settings; may require customer-site visits to collect field data

  • Future role in hiring and team development

Qualifications
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in electric distribution projects in a consulting environment or at an electric utility

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from ABET-accredited institution; Additional relevant experience can be considered in lieu of engineering degree

  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)

  • Experience with engineering design quality control

  • Familiarity with Pole Loading software (O-Calc, Pole Foreman, etc) and distribution pole analysis

  • Ability to use a personal vehicle; some travel may be anticipated (travel reimbursed)

  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work outdoors; may require customer-site visits

  • Valid U.S. driver\'s license

Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT Certification

  • QAQC experience

  • Experience estimating costs, developing a BOM, calculating CIAC

  • Customer interaction experience

  • Proficiency with STORMS software and GIS

  • Leadership experience
