Job summary

SciTec in Dayton, OH is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to serve as our Workload Communications Domain Lead. You will guide how engineering teams design and optimize data/control flow between processes, services, containers, and other workloads that support mission-critical processing and workflows.

The ideal candidate has deep production experience with distributed messaging, event streaming, and RPC systems, plus the ability to mentor others and translate expertise into practical

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 10+ years designing and troubleshooting production software systems.
• Deep production experience with distributed communication systems and multiple message brokers.
• Experience with RPC or low-level messaging frameworks and serialization formats.

Responsibilities

• Assess current communication technologies, patterns, and gaps across engineering teams.
• Define evaluation criteria and run load tests to select core communication technologies and patterns.
• Document ADRs, reference architectures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Build reference implementations, starter templates, and shared libraries for common use cases.
• Guide choices among synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven patterns.
