Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on, person-centered support to individuals, including daily living and medication administration.
  • Serve as a role model and informal leader for DSPs, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and high standards of care.
  • Assist House Manager with scheduling, staff support, documentation review, and inventory.
  • Mentor new staff and guide on best practices and agency policies.
  • Monitor daily logs, MARs, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate with supervisors about individual needs and house operations.
  • Identify and resolve minor issues related to care, staffing, or the home environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, PCP meetings, and training.
  • Ensure the home is clean, safe, and compliant with licensing requirements.
  • Provide shift coverage during emergencies as needed.
  • Demonstrate initiative toward future House Manager responsibilities.
  • Transport individuals to appointments and activities with safety and documentation.

Salary Range: $19.00 To $22.00 Hourly

SHIFT

Monday – Friday and every other weekend 7:00am – 3:30pm and flexibility to accommodate individual needs and schedule variations.

JOB DUTIES
  • Provide hands-on, person-centered support to individuals, including assistance with daily living activities, personal care, community integration, and medication administration.
  • Serve as a role model and informal leader for other DSPs, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and high standards of care.
  • Support the House Manager with day-to-day operations, including shift scheduling, staff support, documentation review, and supply inventory.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new staff and providing guidance on best practices, documentation, and agency policies.
  • Monitor the completion and accuracy of daily logs, medication administration records (MARs), and other required documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors about individual needs, staff concerns, and house operations.
  • Take initiative in identifying and resolving minor issues related to care, staffing, or the physical environment of the home.
  • Participate in team meetings, Person-Centered Plan (PCP) meetings, and training as required.
  • Ensure the home remains clean, safe, and compliant with all licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide shift coverage or fill in during emergencies as needed.
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities aligned with the responsibilities of a future House Manager.
  • Drive individuals to medical appointments, community outings, day programs, and other activities, ensuring safety, timeliness, and appropriate documentation.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & TRAINING
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in Human Services, Healthcare, or a related field preferred.
  • Successful completion of DSP 2 training required, or ability to complete within a designated timeframe.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness and ability to take on additional responsibilities with the goal of progressing to a House Manager role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of DDA regulations, Person-Centered Plans (PCPs), and documentation procedures is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to safely transport individuals using agency vehicles.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on program needs.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a Direct Support Professional in a residential setting.
  • Prior experience with medically fragile children or similar demographics is a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting clients.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
  • Incumbent will be required to work at any facility owned by Second Family, Inc. and be responsible for own transportation.
  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need. (standard-shift, rotating shift, standby, on-call)
KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES
  • Understanding of person-centered care and support strategies for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to lead by example and promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Basic understanding of administrative responsibilities within a group home setting.
  • Confidence in handling crisis situations and making decisions in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a focus on quality and compliance.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and documentation systems.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and the ability to navigate to appointments and community destinations reliably.
