Job summary

Tractor Supply is seeking a senior software engineer to design, build, and support software used across Tractor Supply stores. You will gather requirements, develop prototypes, and help define project scope while leading technical work and mentoring teammates.

Responsibilities include collaborating with analysts and architects, prototyping solutions, and delivering robust backend services with REST APIs, React frontends, and mobile components via React Native/Kotlin.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years serving as a technical lead or leading development teams.
• Strong experience developing backend services using Node.js, NestJS, Java, and REST APIs.
• Strong experience developing frontend applications using React.
• Experience developing mobile applications using React Native and/or Kotlin.
• Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Meet with technical leads, architects and vendor partners to determine project scope and vision, set system goals, identify and resolve system issues, ensure the system is implemented as designed and in adherence to the implementation guidelines.
• Partner with the business analysts to review and refine business requirements into core system capabilities.
• Assist developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and validating solutions that meet business requirements.
• Prototype new requirements for the purpose of enhancing technical functionalities and information process flow.
• Develop and/or configure, build, review and unit test software/solutions.
• Assists in QA efforts on tasks worked by providing input for test cases and supporting test case execution.
• Work directly with the business users to provide support including the design and development of customer training materials, and conducting customer training sessions.
• Mentor team members on new technologies in area of expertise.
• Work with Enterprise team to ensure changes are properly documented, communicated, audited, and deployed in compliance with established procedures.
• Provide 24x7 rotational technical support to solve business problems and document resolution

This position is responsible for creating, designing, and supporting software running on various platforms used in Tractor Supply stores as well as gathering requirements, developing prototypes, and assisting in setting project scope. Additional responsibilities include directing technical work, leading projects, and mentoring team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

Required Qualifications

Experience:

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.

5+ years serving as a technical lead or leading development teams.

Strong experience developing backend services using Node.js, NestJS, Java, and REST APIs.

Strong experience developing frontend applications using React.

Experience developing mobile applications using React Native and/or Kotlin.

Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development practices.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

Advanced knowledge of:

Oracle SQL and PL/SQL

Experience designing scalable RESTful APIs and microservice-based applications.

Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.

Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes deployment models.

Experience collaborating with DevOps teams supporting CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments.

Experience with Python for automation, integrations, scripting, or application development is a plus.

Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Jest, Cypress, or Playwright.

Strong understanding of application security, authentication, and secure coding practices.

Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design initiatives.
