Job summary

CalSTRS is seeking a Lead Developer to modernize and enhance its Investment Data Warehouse (IDW) platform while driving GenBI, AI/ML, and Generative AI initiatives. The role leads enterprise data warehousing initiatives, AI-powered analytics, semantic models, and cloud-based data engineering on AWS/Snowflake.

You will steer technical design reviews, CI/CD, and governance, collaborating with stakeholders across analytics, architecture, and IT teams.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience in data/BI engineering or analytics.
• At least 5 years leading a team (3+ members) to implement enterprise BI or large data warehouse solutions.
• At least 5 years experience working with AI/ML or GenAI technologies.
• At least 2 proven deliveries of production-grade BI or data products (dashboards, data models, APIs).
• At least 2 years with ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, and orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, etc.).
• At least 2 years of experience using OpenAI APIs or similar LLM platforms, building NL-to-SQL/query systems, and prompt engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience in SQL (advanced joins, window functions), data modeling (star/snowflake), and hands-on with Power BI, Tableau, Looker
• At least 2 years leading a team of analysts and developers, and collaborating with stakeholders.

Description: CalSTRS is seeking an experienced Lead Developer to support the modernization, enhancement, and maintenance of its Investment Data Warehouse (IDW) platform while driving the design and implementation of Generative Business Intelligence (GenBI), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Generative AI solutions. The Lead Developer will provide technical leadership for enterprise data warehouse initiatives, AI-powered analytics, natural language querying solutions, semantic models, dashboards, and cloud-based data engineering platforms primarily leveraging AWS and Snowflake technologies. • At least (2) years of experience leading a team of analysts and developers, as well as collaborating with stakeholders, to discover, document, and implement requirements and stakeholder requests for data warehouse or business intelligence projects.
