Description: CalSTRS is seeking an experienced Lead Developer to support the modernization, enhancement, and maintenance of its Investment Data Warehouse (IDW) platform while driving the design and implementation of Generative Business Intelligence (GenBI), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Generative AI solutions. The Lead Developer will provide technical leadership for enterprise data warehouse initiatives, AI-powered analytics, natural language querying solutions, semantic models, dashboards, and cloud-based data engineering platforms primarily leveraging AWS and Snowflake technologies. Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and enhancement of the Investment Data Warehouse platform.
- Design and implement GenBI, AI/ML, and Generative AI use cases.
- Develop natural language-to-SQL and AI-assisted analytics solutions.
- Design semantic models and dimensional data models.
- Develop dashboards and reporting solutions using BI platforms.
- Implement prompt engineering strategies and optimize AI model behavior.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data analysts, architects, and technical teams.
- Lead technical design reviews, code reviews, and best-practice adoption.
- Support CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and cloud infrastructure automation.
- Provide knowledge transfer to CalSTRS staff and technical teams.
- Ensure compliance with AI governance, security, and data privacy standards.
Required Skills:
- At least (10) years of experience in data/BI engineering or analytics.
- At least (5) years of experience in leading a team (at least 3 members) to implement enterprise-level BI and/or large data warehouse solutions.
- At least (5) years of experience working with AI/ML or GenAI technologies.
- At least (2) proven deliveries of production-grade BI or data products (dashboards, data models, APIs).
- At least (2) years of experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, and orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, etc.)
- At least (2) years of experience using OpenAI APIs or similar LLM platforms, building natural language to SQL/query systems, designing prompt strategies for business insights and analytics, and prompt engineering to guide the platform's system behavior.
- At least (2) years of experience in SQL (advanced joins, window functions, performance tuning), data modeling (star/snowflake schemas, semantic layers), and hands-on experience with at least one major BI tool such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker
- At least (2) years of experience leading a team of analysts and developers, as well as collaborating with stakeholders, to discover, document, and implement requirements and stakeholder requests for data warehouse or business intelligence projects.
