Job summary

Kokosing is seeking a Lead Construction Design Engineer to develop temporary civil and structural designs for bridge and infrastructure projects. The role may be based out of our Richmond, VA or Annapolis Junction, MD office and requires leadership of a design team including CAD modelers.

The candidate must hold a PE license in Virginia and/or Maryland and bring at least 10 years of experience in temporary construction design, with expertise in shoring, cofferdams, and erection plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering field.
• Current Professional Engineer license in Virginia and/or Maryland with ability to obtain other states.
• Minimum 10 years of design experience for temporary construction works (shoring, erection, demolition) for bridge/highway projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and review temporary construction engineering designs for safety, constructability, and code compliance.
• Provide leadership and direction to other design engineers and CAD modelers.
• Coordinate project schedules and manage submittals with cross‑functional teams.
• Represent Kokosing at client and project management meetings; support pre-bid estimates and cost analyses.
• Collaborate with operations to optimize means and methods and reuse in‑house materials where possible.
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements and safety standards.
