Job summary

The Deputy Attorney General Supervisor position in the Environmental Justice and Protection Section of the State of California involves directing a team of attorneys and paralegals in complex environmental matters, under both state and federal law.

Responsibilities include leading investigations, supervising staff, coordinating with agencies, and handling jury trials, writs, appeals, and administrative hearings with independent judgment.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership skills with ability to lead teams of attorneys.
• Significant civil litigation experience in federal and state courts.
• Background and interest in environmental law is highly desirable.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and work independently and in a team.
• Excellent research and writing skills, plus oral advocacy.
• Well organized, detail oriented, and a good work ethic.
• Ability to engage in management and administrative tasks including case reporting and recruitment.

Responsibilities

• Directs and monitors work of a team of attorneys and paralegals; provides training and supervision.
• Interviews and participates in interviews for subordinate attorneys and support staff.
• Handles difficult legal work including jury trials, bench trials, writs, appeals, and administrative hearings.
• Coordinates with District Attorney Offices and state/federal agencies; provides legal advice to the Attorney General and agencies.
