Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Decision Intelligence Engineer to design, train, and improve reinforcement learning policies for the Next Best Action platform.

You will own the full RL lifecycle, from feature engineering to production deployment, ensuring decisions for 8 million members are informed by a learning policy. This hands‑on, research‑oriented role requires collaboration with data engineers and platform teams to maintain robust, auditable, and compliant decisioning systems within a healthcare

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field required.
• 8+ years building and operating large-scale production systems.
• 3+ years implementing reinforcement learning or deep learning systems in production.
• Proficiency in Python 3.x; PyTorch or TensorFlow for policy networks.
• Experience with Ray RLlib for distributed training at scale.
• Experience with Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake for ML pipelines.
• Experience with MLflow for experiment tracking and model registry.
• Track record of shipping ML systems under production load.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evaluate RL algorithms for healthcare decisioning.
• Define and maintain member state and action spaces for policy learning.
• Instrument training pipelines with metrics and ensure regulatory alignment.
• Build and evaluate simulation backtesting environments before production.
• Collaborate with data/platform engineers to ensure reproducible data pipelines.
• Own model artifacts, versioning, and lifecycle management in MLflow.
• Document model behavior and ensure explainability and governance.
