Lead DDC/BAS Controls Service Technician

Description

Position Purpose:
As a LONG Lead Controls Service Technician, you will work as part of the LONG Service Team to support our customer base. The Lead Technician serves as a technical leader on the team, using experience and skills to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of temperature control systems. They perform the most complex and challenging controls service tasks and train other team members on emergency and preventative maintenance. The Lead Technician must possess a high level of industry knowledge including mechanical, electrical, programming, integration, legacy system types, and more. They act as a liaison with the service operations team, the service sales team, and the customer to ensure maintenance and service is properly administered and customers are informed about critical issues within their facility.

Pay Range

$45.00 - $55.00 per hour, plus potential profit share.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Utilize industrial experience to troubleshoot any issues with systems to identify and implement solutions.
  • Determine the most effective action based on troubleshooting results, controls plan, mechanical system operation, and BAS data, considering overall system operation and cross‑system dynamics.
  • Program, tune, and control setpoint adjustments within manufacturers and engineering design recommendations in accordance with LONG standards.
  • Perform calibration and point‑to‑point troubleshooting of control systems and controlled equipment/components to verify or improve equipment operation.
  • Provide information to update drawings and keep records of equipment for as‑built documentation and submit all redlined drafting to application engineers.
  • Effectively communicate with customers to answer inquiries, offer guidance, and resolve technical issues.
  • Supply information to customers about necessary replacements or vital repairs that are key components to devices.
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendations to owners and the service team regarding warranty issues or challenging situations with a customer‑focused attitude.
  • Instruct owner's personnel and control service technicians on maintenance of temperature control systems and energy conservation routines.
  • Keep record of all repairs and maintenance and report issues to the Service Supervisor.
  • Provide guidance to controls service technicians about system maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment recommendations onsite and offsite.
  • Provide technical expertise and standardized procedures to maximize control service technician efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly and efficiently with operations manager, service supervisors, installation supervisors and control technicians via voicemail, cell phone and email regarding scheduling, job concerns, technical matters and other issues.
  • Work well with all business unit managers, service supervisors, customers, application engineers, sales personnel, service and control technicians.
  • Advise supervisor and managers regarding system deficiencies and customer complaints, and advise appropriate building intelligence personnel. Advise Service Supervisor on maintenance status and completion of assigned work.
  • Expand, document, and organize technologies knowledge and programming skill with all represented manufacturers, working closely with technical standards, programming and R&D group.
  • Ensure that LONG is fairly compensated for all work, including work performed outside contractual obligations.
  • Always abide by all LONG and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ensure code compliance with all technical work performed.
  • On‑call work may be required periodically.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 2 years of a computer/electronic technical degree and 3 years of temperature control system start‑up, checkout, and service experience or 5 years of such experience.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Advanced programming and troubleshooting skills with systems such as KMC, Distech, Tridium/Honeywell, and similar systems.
  • Strong analytical abilities for resolving software and integration issues.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical plans and specifications accurately.
  • Expertise in HVAC systems, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, and construction procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead multiple tasks simultaneously, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members on complex worksite tasks and issues.
  • Strong customer service orientation and analytical problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective leadership, communication (both written and verbal), and computer proficiency.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to job sites and customer locations for inspections.
  • In‑depth knowledge of dispatch, job costing, HVAC mechanical and electrical systems, controls, and safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of LONG's system operations and infrastructure, as it pertains to service operations and its stakeholders.
